SSSS T f aaaaa v.4.00
(STfa)
The essentil utilly for all ST owners (probably).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Special information about the latest versions is at the end of file -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
STfa is a text-speeder and it will speeds up these snail like
GEMDOS screen-text-printing routines. Unlike some other programs
it accepts ALL VT52 emulation commands meaning that it is very
compatible also in this part.
On the you'll find the following files :
STFA.ACC the accessory/program file
STFA.RSC the resource file for STFA.ACC
STFA_EXT.PRG stand-alone version of Extend STfa
STFA_TUR.PRG stand-alone version of Turbo STfa
STFA.DOC you are reading this right now
PRNTSTFA.PRG the stand-alone version of PrntSTfa
All these files are copyright of STectre , © 1992. All rights
reserved. Distribution is allowed through PD libraries/BBS's.
It's recommend that you use the accessory version of
STfa but if you prefer then you can use stand-alone versions.
But before doing so try out the accessory version at least once.
Simply copy STFA.ACC and STFA.RSC to the root-directory of
your boot-disk and reboot your computer.
If you are using a colour monitor/TV then you'll notice
that the green colour is replaced by blue ,which looks rather
better ( does'nt it? )
NOTE! DO NOT load STFA.ACC into MultiDesk ,it'll work but
when you unload it then your ST will crash! The same applies to
DC Stuffer and probably also to Chameleon. If you're very tight
on memory ( probably on an 520 ) then use the stand-alone
versions of STfa. These versions use very little memory and
do the same job.
Now move the mouse pointer to the Desk menu and select STfa!
Next a dialog-box will come up with different options. You'll see
four different options about STfa : Normal STfa ,Extend STfa ,
Turbo STfa and Off. The Turbo STfa option is the default one at the
start and also the fastest. Normal STfa is not as fast as Turbo STfa
or Extend STfa ,and Extend STfa is faster than Normal STfa but
slower than Turbo STfa. Why three STfa options ? When a program
crashes with for example Turbo STfa then you can try Extend or
Normal STfa , but we're not sure weather it'll really work. And
selecting Off will naturally turn STfa off.
NOTE! Whenever you switch ST's resolution from Low to Medium or
form Medium to Low then you must ALWAYS switch STfa Off otherwise rare
things will happen since the old vector will be owerwritten. The
accessory will only take up around 6K of memory ,and that's the real
beauty of STfa!
STFA_EXT.PRG ( Extend STfa mode ) and STFA_TUR.PRG ( Turbo STfa
mode ) are stand-alone versions of STfa ,intended for the AUTO folder
or you can run them from the Desktop. The total memory used by STFA_-
EXT.PRG or STFA_TUR.PRG will be less then 550 BYTES!
NOTE! You should EITHER use STFA_EXT.PRG ,STFA_TUR.PRG _OR_ the
accessory version! DO NOT install all of these programs at the same
time.
STfa does not speed up text printing to the same range as Quick
ST 3 or Turbo ST 1.84 but still it does speed it up and if you're on a
tight budget then STfa should be your first choice since v3.02 of
STfa is totally ( almost - see EOF ) compatible and uses very little
memory. In this part no one can beat STfa!
Other things in the accessory dialog-box :
Cursor Flash/Still : Selecting Flash will make the text cursor
flash (default) and selecting Still will
change the text cursor into a still one.
Keycliks On/Off: This will either turn On or Off keyclicks.
Disk Verify On/Off :
This option will enably you to toggle between verify
On or Off. The normal procedure when writing a sector to
disk is as follows :
Routine 1 :
- Write the sector to disk
- Read this sector back again
- CoMPare it with the data ( in memory ) which
should be written
- Not EQUal so go to error routine
- Continue with the next sector
This is very slow although it does make you data safe,
anyway this can be speeded up ,like :
Routine 2 :
- Write the sector to disk
- Continue with the next sector
This is fast but never returns any error messages !!!
Verify On will ( the default one when your ST starts ) will
use the routine 1 ,and if you select Verify Off then the
second routine will be used. The choice is yours!
Display Inverse/Normal : Select inverse and see! Normal
will turn it back to normal.
STfa is a Shareware program and if you like it you should
send us a donitation of kr 50 NOK. It's less than £ 5 GBP and
shouldn't break the bank. 1) You can either transfer the amount
of kr 50 NOK to our account nr 0825 0368896. The SWIFT "address"
in this case you need is POSTGIRO INTERNATIONAL N-0021 OSLO - PGINNOKK.
And our address is : STectre
Stjernemyrvn. 30
0673 Oslo ,Norway
2) If you're not sure about that then you can make a normal
cheque/postal order but in this case it MUST be payable to
Jabran Akhtar and the same address :
Stjernemyrvn. 30
0673 Oslo ,Norway.
*******************************New Versions********************************
--------------------------------v 2.05-------------------------------------
Mainly bug-fixes
This version of STfa no longer displays shrinking and
growing boxes to save both time and memory. The Inverse option
now works correctly on a mono monitor. STfa is now fully
compatible with GFA BASIC x.x ( unlike Quick ST 1.x ) ,and three
internal bug fixes -> nothing for you!
--------------------------------v 2.54-------------------------------------
Previous versions of STfa crashed horribly with almost every
packed program. And now ( you gussed it ) it does'nt. And it now
works with e
